We also respond to specific requests at a national or subregional level. Applying tools and methods to promote preventive conservation, risk management, heritage impact assessment and other relevant approaches through field projects.
PREVENTIVE CONSERVATION
Preventive conservation includes all measures and actions to assure the protection of cultural heritage from environmentally induced damage and minimize the deterioration or loss of objects. At ICCROM we work to sustain heritage collections through our new initiative Our Collections Matter. Also, we help museums regain control of their collections in storage by reorganizing museum storage spaces. This is through our highly demanded RE-ORG method, which has helped collections all over the world unlock their potential by providing practical tools and training for museum staff and heritage collections institutions.
CONDUCTING MANAGEMENT EFFECTIVENESS ASSESSMENTS
Managing World Heritage and heritage places is an ongoing effort that needs constant monitoring and review. The Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit 2.0 supports managing institutions, site coordinators, rights-holders and communities in assessing the effectiveness of the management of heritage places and provides knowledge and tools to improve what is not working.
WORLD HERITAGE MANAGEMENT
This on-demand course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of how World Heritage properties should be managed to ensure the long-term protection of their Outstanding Universal Value and other heritage values. The course is adaptable to national and regional contexts and provides an overview of the entire management system, from understanding the heritage place to establishing governance arrangements, management planning and ensuring that conservation and societal results are achieved.
IMPACT ASSESSMENT
World Heritage properties and heritage places are facing increased challenges, from development pressures to changes in policies. This on-demand course, based on the methodology of the Guidance and Toolkit for Impact Assessment in a World Heritage context, guides participants through the steps of an impact assessment and provides support in framing the impact assessment process as an opportunity to enable good decision making and responsible development planning.
RISK MANAGEMENT
World Heritage properties and heritage places increasingly face the effects of climate change, including more frequent and more intense instances of extreme weather events and conflicts. The updated methodology for disaster risk management allows us to comprehensively assess risks and formulate preparedness measures and responses.
