General Description of the Internship

The Partnerships and Communications Unit ensures that ICCROM delivers a compelling, coherent, and consistent message globally. Engaging Member States, partners, professional communities, and stakeholders, the Unit fosters essential public, political, and financial support for ICCROM’s mission. Through close collaboration with other units, it positions ICCROM as a trusted leader in capacity building and heritage conservation. Effective, targeted outreach—both online and offline—is fundamental to deepening stakeholder engagement and advancing ICCROM’s impact.

ICCROM is seeking a creative and motivated Communications Intern to support the work of its Partnerships and Communications Unit. The internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to different aspects of ICCROM’s communications and external relations—from content creation and digital engagement to strategic outreach.

The Partnerships and Communications Unit is currently seeking a Digital Communications Intern.

Purpose of the internship

Join the Partnerships and Communications Unit and contribute to the creation and dissemination of engaging, high-quality content across ICCROM’s digital platforms. The intern will assist in drafting news articles and website updates, preparing content for newsletters, and supporting the development and scheduling of social media posts. The intern will also help in curating visual storytelling materials—such as photos, graphics, and short videos—to highlight ICCROM’s global impact, initiatives, and partnerships effectively.

Learning Goals

As a capacity-building organization, our aim is to offer interns the unique opportunity to assist our staff, meet other interns and research fellows, interact with heritage professionals from all over the world and stimulate their intellectual curiosity. In particular, the intern will have the following learning goals:

  • Develop hands-on experience in digital and strategic communications for a global audience.
  • Improve writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills across various platforms.
  • Gain experience in planning and supporting online and in-person events.
  • Strengthen skills in social media, multimedia content creation, and basic design tools.
  • Support external relations, governance communications, and outreach activities.
  • Work effectively in a multicultural environment, fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Required qualifications

Education

  • Advanced university degree in communication and marketing, journalism, international relations, or related discipline is required.

Skills and knowledge

  • Willingness to create engaging social media content for a variety of audiences across digital and traditional platforms.
  • Interest in supporting writing and editing press releases, blog posts, reports, speeches, and promotional materials.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools software to create visual content.
  • Interest in learning about national and international political and cultural heritage trends.

Competencies

  • Good written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex information clearly.

  • Ability to work sensitively in a multicultural environment with appropriate understanding of differences in culture, gender and physical ability; with a commitment to ICCROM values and standards.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of ICCROM. The above positions require advanced fluency in English (both oral and written). The knowledge of French or any other language is an added advantage.

Remuneration

Stipend of EUR 700,00 per month. Your round-trip travel costs to and from Rome, your living costs, including accommodation, and any other expenses, will not be covered by ICCROM.
