Rome, 12 August 2025 – The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Venezuela, H.E. Marilyn Giuseppina Di Luca Santaella, met with ICCROM Director-General Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral to discuss revitalizing cooperation between Venezuela and the Organization.
The meeting underscored Venezuela’s role in fostering regional coordination in Latin America and focused on reactivating its engagement with ICCROM while exploring potential avenues for future collaboration.
Both parties emphasized a people-centred approach to heritage – positioning culture as a driver of social cohesion, identity, and better livelihoods – with particular attention to Indigenous peoples, women and youth.
The Ambassador highlighted Venezuela’s rich natural and cultural heritage, noting the recent achievement in securing international recognition for casabe as intangible heritage, jointly with the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, and Honduras.
In a spirit of mutual commitment, ICCROM and Venezuela agreed to pursue collaborative initiatives that promote heritage conservation for the benefit of communities and foster sustainable practices that safeguard cultural traditions for future generations.
