يتم إجراء هذا الاستطلاع كجزء من مشروع *APACHE، وهو مشروع بحثي جديد ينفذه الاتحاد الأوروبي لتطوير حلول فعالة ومعقولة التكلفة للصون الوقائي للقطع المعروضة أو المخزنة.

جزء مهم من عمل منظمة ايكروم هو مراقبة وتقاسم النتائج العلمية الجديدة، وتحديد الفجوات المعرفية. من خلال متابعة التطورات الدائمة وإلقاء الضوء على القضايا الرئيسة في مجال البحث، تسعى منظمة إيكروم إلى تحفيز التحليل والحوار بهدف تحسين قدرة هذا القطاع على تلبية الاحتياجات الحالية والتحديات المستقبلية.

يروي التراث الثقافي تاريخنا الإنساني. فتخيل إذاً كيف يكون الأمر بدون هذا التراث: مدننا خالية من المتاحف والمعالم الأثرية، وعائلاتنا من دون روايات وصورتذكارية. إن تراثنا هو خصوصية مميِّزة لوجودنا، ولتشابهنا، ولاختلافاتنا. لماذا إذاً من الصعب غالباً إقناع صانعي القرار في هذا المجال بأن أمر صون التراث يستحق العناء؟ عندما تخصص الميزانيات وتوضع الخطط للتنمية، غالباً لا يكون التراث من الأولويات.
