Overview of the Functions of the Post

ICCROM has developed many programmes and activities related to the conservation and management of heritage collections in museums, archives, libraries, etc. At present, we are developing several new initiatives, including prospective activities for connecting collections and sustainable development - “Our Collections Matter” and “Sustaining Digital Heritage.” ICCROM has also continued implementing the CollAsia programme for heritage collections in the Asia-Pacific Region, as well as on-demand RE-ORG workshops at the national, regional and international level for the reorganization of museums’ storage.

Other ongoing initiatives involving heritage collections include materials-based courses, jointly organized with partner institutions in our Member States, including paper, stone, textiles and wood conservation.

ICCROM seeks a professional who will manage the development and implementation of activities related to heritage collections’ conservation and management, including digital heritage. The incumbent will bring experience in this subject area, in project management and in the organization of capacity-building activities.

Key Accountabilities

The Movable Heritage Project Officer will work in ICCROM’s Programmes Unit and report to the Unit Manager. The post is based at ICCROM headquarters in Rome, Italy. Within delegated authority, the Movable Heritage Project Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Develop, manage and implement training programmes and capacity-building activities in the field of movable heritage (including digital heritage).
  2. Work with Member States, partners, participants and other key stakeholders to ensure an accountable impact assessment, overall evaluation, monitoring, and ensure that lessons learned are then implemented.
  3. Monitor and analyze the various components of ICCROM´s activities concerning heritage collections and identify external emerging themes, best practices, opportunities and new trends.
  4. Participate as a trainer and/or facilitator in the various activities and within the area of expertise.
  5. Lead the communication strategy for movable heritage projects and prepare related documents and reports in close collaboration with the Partnership and Communication Unit.
  6. Liaise with resource mobilization colleagues to ensure the achievement of fundraising goals concerning heritage collections.
  7. Collaborate with Strategic Planning Unit colleagues to develop long-term planning, foresight, evaluation and monitoring for collections programmes and activities.
  8. Collaborate as necessary with colleagues at the ICCROM-Sharjah Regional Office on movable heritage-related issues.

Required Qualifications

1.      Education

  • Advanced university degree (i.e. master’s degree, PhD) in collections management and care, movable heritage conservation, or related discipline is required.
  • Project management or training professional certification – such as CAPM, PMP, PMI-ACP or training for trainers certifications – is an asset. 

2.     Work experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the movable heritage field, of which preferably two (2) years acquired at the international level.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in managing international capacity-building and training programmes in the area of movable heritage conservation and management.
  • Proven experience in managing international projects in the field of movable heritage.
  • Experience in delivering innovation projects, supporting pilot programmes and introducing new projects to mature organizations.

3.     Skills and knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of movable heritage management, care and conservation, or related discipline.
  • Exceptional knowledge of project management related to heritage collections’ conservation and management.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and implement capacity-building and training programmes in an international environment and with multiple stakeholders.

4.     Competencies

  • Project management: ability to develop clear, workable plans and establish cost-effective contributions to ensure impact.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with appropriate sensitivity to differences of culture, gender and physical ability.
  • Commitment to ICCROM’s values and International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) standards.

5.     Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of ICCROM. This position requires fluency in English (both oral and written). Knowledge of Spanish and any other language is an added advantage.

Remuneration
