"Juventud. Patrimonio. África." es una nueva iniciativa regional a largo plazo del ICCROM. El objetivo es crear valor económico, invertir en capital social y humano y fomentar la innovación y la creatividad en el sector del patrimonio, en consonancia con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas para 2030 y las aspiraciones del Programa 2063 de la Unión Africana.

Hay buenas razones para focalizarse en la juventud africana. África es el hogar de la población más joven y de más rápido crecimiento del mundo; las personas de entre 14 y 35 años de edad constituyen más del 40% de su población. También son los más afectados por el desempleo y la pobreza. Al mismo tiempo, el contexto está evolucionando rápidamente: hay una red creciente de universidades africanas, de una sociedad civil activa y de ecosistemas tecnológicos vibrantes en todo el continente. La juventud de África, combinada con su rico patrimonio, encierra un gran potencial para el desarrollo social y económico.

Basándose en la experiencia y los conocimientos técnicos del Fondo del Patrimonio Mundial Africano, la École du Patrimoine African y otros asociados institucionales africanos, el nuevo programa del ICCROM tendrá los siguientes objetivos:

  • Involucrar a los jóvenes de África en el cuidado del patrimonio: su conservación, resiliencia, gestión y promoción.
  • Integrar oportunidades empresariales sostenibles en el sector del patrimonio.
  • Desarrollar un uso sostenible, resiliente e innovador del patrimonio para la educación, el desarrollo y la paz.

En los próximos 3 años, involucraremos a los jóvenes a través de:

  • La creación de seis "espacios de patrimonio" piloto que los reunirán en torno a actividades y bienes patrimoniales.  
  • Un Concurso de Jóvenes y Patrimonio anual para descubrir talentos y apoyarlos técnica y financieramente para que puedan construir su negocio.
  • Liderazgo en gestión del patrimonio y formación empresarial para fortalecer las instituciones patrimoniales actuales y futuras.

En el plano mundial, el ICCROM y sus asociados se esforzarán por dar mayor relieve al patrimonio, especialmente entre los políticos y los encargados de adoptar decisiones de alto nivel.

Para 2022, esperamos que más de 1500 jóvenes africanos hayan participado en el programa, con el apoyo de una activa red de instituciones de patrimonio en todo el continente.
