The course places an emphasis on the role of sustainability within the historic context at both technical and strategic levels.  Historic building materials and their conservation are also a significant element of the course, which benefits from multiple field trips with in the UK and a 5-day study visit abroad, typically to Rome.

The course is offered on both a full time and a part time basis and attracts students from a broad range of backgrounds who benefit from the opportunity to exchange and build their expertise.
