Are you directly involved in the management of a World Heritage property?
IUCN, ICCROM and ICOMOS are looking for heritage professionals working with World Heritage properties (cultural, natural and mixed) and other heritage places to join an interactive online consultation to shape a future guidance on preparing and updating management plans.
This consultation will gather practical inputs and experiences to help ensure the guidance addresses on-the-ground needs and realities.
Who are we looking for?
We particularly encourage applications from managers of World Heritage properties who:
Do not yet have a management plan;
Have outdated or incomplete management plans;
Are currently developing or revising a management plan or similar planning instrument.
While this consultation is primarily intended for those working with World Heritage properties, we also welcome applications from professionals involved in the management of other heritage places, and other protected and conserved areas, where relevant experience. This consultation might be particularly interesting for the about 140 natural World Heritage sites for which management and protection were assessed as not sufficiently effective by the 2025 IUCN World Heritage Outlook.
What to expect
This will be a highly interactive session, designed to hear directly from participants about:
Key issues encountered in preparing or updating management plans;
Practical needs and challenges;
Approaches that have worked – or not worked – in different contexts.
Through polls and short interactive sessions, the consultation will focus on identifying common needs, priorities, and practical considerations in preparing and updating management plans across different contexts and typologies of World Heritage properties and other heritage places.
This is an opportunity to share your experience, help shape global guidance on management plans for World Heritage, and exchange insights with other site managers facing similar challenges.
How to participate
Interested professionals should send their application by 5 June 2026 by filling out this application form
