Monday 25 May marked the 57th anniversary of the birth of the African Union. To celebrate, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation hosted an online marathon featuring artistic and cultural content dedicated to the African continent.

With over 50 contributions from African and Italian artists, international figures and political personalities, ICCROM Director-General Webber Ndoro also contributed to the event. “Today, the call for unity is even more pertinent given the havoc the COVID pandemic is creating all over the world,” Ndoro says. “As ICCROM, and as an African myself, we commend the Italian government for being with Africa throughout the years.”

There is concern for the increasing vulnerability of cultural heritage and cultural industries, yet culture can also provide relief and contribute to resilience in the face of such pandemics. United, we can work towards a stronger and brighter future.

The full slate of contributions can be enjoyed on the YouTube Channel of the Foreign Ministry.
