ICCROM works to strengthen the heritage field’s identity and vision and promote best practices for developing and sharing scientific knowledge within heritage research based on interdisciplinary collaboration and open science principles. We do this by participating in broad, community-based initiatives and strategic projects to support the development of heritage science and better link cultural heritage research to needs.

Initiatives

ICCROM collaborates with strategic initiatives such as:

  • Joint Programming Initiative for Cultural Heritage (JPI-CH)
  • European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS)
  • Integrated Platform for the European Research Infrastructure (IPERION HS)

Projects

ICCROM is currently engaged in projects such as:

  • The Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe (ARCHE) project, which seeks to promote a more holistic approach to heritage research, is realised through a pan-European network of researchers, heritage professionals, institutional bodies and citizens. The ARCHE project is funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine (France) and brings together a consortium of 24 partners from 18 European countries. As a core part of its work, ARCHE will develop a new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for heritage, codesigned through a comprehensive consultation process, to stimulate joint actions in emerging areas of need.
  • The European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science – Implementation Phase (E-RIHS IP) project seeks to enable the implementation of E-RIHS as a pan-European infrastructure for Heritage Science as an interdisciplinary research domain dedicated to improving the understanding and sustainable preservation of cultural heritage. E-RIHS IP is funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe Framework Programme and brings together 19 partners from countries that expressed their willingness to support the establishment of the E-RIHS ERIC, as well as ICCROM as a permanent observer.
ICCROM is deeply committed to gender equality as part of its values and mission. We aim to create a diverse and thriving community by providing equal opportunities to all heritage practitioners and researchers who engage in our activities. Consult our Gender Equality Plan for more details.
