This virtual seminar delves into the health hazards frequently encountered with book and paper objects of libraries and archives. The session will primarily focus on toxic pigments, pesticides and mould that may be present in these materials and aims to equip participants with the basic awareness to identify, manage and mitigate these risks in their professional practice. Attention will also be given to the rapidly growing corpus of ‘Bibliotoxicology’ research and its implications from an occupational health and safety perspective.
Please note that some of the information of this seminar has been covered in our ‘Hazards in Collections’ course with Larry Carr.
Larry Carr is one of the UK’s authorities in the subject of health hazards found in object collections. He is a health and safety professional with more than a decade of experience in the museums sector including the Science Museum, British Museum and other UK National Museums.
