ProCultHer –Protecting Cultural Heritage from the Consequences of Disasters – aims to develop a common method and standard operating procedures for rescuing cultural heritage during emergencies induced by large-scale disasters.
The project, which started in January 2019 and will end in December 2021, is co-funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), within the framework of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) under the UCPM-2018-PP-AG Call (Prevention and Preparedness in civil protection and marine pollution).
Building upon recent experiences on the protection of cultural heritage during disasters, and on the outcomes of PROMEDHE (Protecting Mediterranean Cultural Heritage During Disasters), a previously EU funded project, ProCultHer contributed to the development of the capacities of UCPM Participating States to protect cultural heritage, by placing this issue at the top of national European agendas, in addition to making the development of cultural heritage resilience a common goal.
In particular, ProCultHer will focus on establishing a UCPM driven multi-sectoral capacity for the safeguard of cultural heritage in emergency based on the definition of a European common methodology and technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in this field.
