RE-ORG was initially developed in 2011 by ICCROM with the support of UNESCO.

Since 2011, the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) partnered with ICCROM to ensure the development and the dissemination of the method. In particular, CCI developed an innovative approach for the national RE-ORG Canada strategy, using blended learning and partnering with museum associations and grant program. The experience of CCI has been instrumental to the revision and diversification of the RE-ORG resources and tools.
