Torrential rains have led to devastating floods in the Henan province and its capital city, Zhengzhou in the People’s Republic of China. The Director-General and staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the Government and People of China for the loss of lives and the extensive damage caused as a result.

After large-scale evacuations, operations are underway to secure invaluable cultural relics in the affected region. ICCROM expresses solidarity with its long-term partner, National Cultural Heritage Administration and its provincial counterparts, who are coordinating cultural rescue.

ICCROM stands ready to extend its technical assistance in safeguarding heritage to promote early recovery of the affected communities.

As extreme weather events become more prevalent worldwide, ICCROM will continue to work with its Member States to protect their cultural heritage.
