ICCROM and EU

On 14 January 2026, ICCROM Director-General Gujral welcomed H.E. Mr Martin Selmayr, Ambassador of the European Union to the Holy See, the Order of Malta, the UN Organizations in Rome and to the Republic of San Marino.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between ICCROM and the European Union, one of the Organization’s key strategic partners. Discussions focused on ongoing collaboration and on exploring new joint programmes that advance shared objectives, reinforce the enduring value of multilateral cooperation, and position cultural heritage as a solution to global challenges and evolving priorities.

ICCROM’s work is grounded in a conviction shared with the EU: that multilateralism is essential to safeguarding cultural heritage for present and future generations. In challenging times, such constructive dialogue is more important than ever. We look forward to paving the way toward expanded cooperation and a strengthened role of the EU within ICCROM in the years ahead.
