On 13 January 2026, ICCROM Director-General Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral welcomed H.E. Mohamed Khelifi, Ambassador of Algeria to Italy, for discussions on strengthening ICCROM’s support to Algeria, a Member State since 1973.
The Director-General and the Ambassador reflected on the long-standing and wide-ranging cooperation between ICCROM and Algeria, spanning more than half a century. The Director-General also welcomed the election of an Algerian delegate to ICCROM’s Council.
Looking ahead, they explored opportunities to deepen collaboration across a broad range of areas, including archaeological sites and historic cities, rock art, museums, and training and capacity building—affirming a shared commitment to harnessing culture and the creative economy as powerful drivers of socio-economic growth.
