On 25-26 November 2024, the ICCROM and IUCN World Heritage Leadership programme (WHL) delivered a two-day World Heritage Impact Assessment workshop in Dublin, Ireland to 80 participants working in heritage, planning, tourism and development. The workshop was carried out in partnership with the Irish National Monuments Service and the Office of Public Works.

The ICCROM-IUCN World Heritage Leadership (WHL) Programme joined forces with the Beijing Forestry University (BFU) School of Landscape Architecture to host the Heritage and Landscape Conservation Conference and the first in-person workshop of the Heritage Place Lab 2024-2025.

ICCROM and the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH) hosted the second edition of the World Archaeology “Ancient Royal Tombs” conference, consisting of a public lecture on 29 October and a scientific symposium on 30 October.

ICCROM and Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali (FSBAC), the School of Cultural Heritage founded by the Ministry of Culture of Italy, are seeking 30 participants from African countries and Italy to join their new capacity-building initiative: World Heritage in Africa – Fostering practitioners for nomination processes and strategies (WHAPS) project.

From 27 September to 11 October 2024, the ICCROM-IUCN World Heritage Leadership (WHL) programme successfully conducted the "Managing World Heritage: People Nature Culture" (PNC) course, which brought together 35 site managers, national focal points, and heritage professionals from 26 countries offering them the chance to discuss World Heritage management.

The new publication “Heritage Place Lab. A Model for Research-Practice Collaboration in the Context of World Heritage. Report of the Pilot Phase 2021-2022” presents the testing of a methodology for collaborative work between academics and site managers and showcases the resulting research agendas prepared by research-practice teams from Argentina, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Norway and Zimbabwe.

We invite researchers interested in establishing collaborations with World Heritage management institutions to contribute to improving their management processes and decision-making. The Heritage Place Lab 2024-2025 will consist of a series of online and in-person workshops to be held between September 2024 and April 2025.

We're thrilled to announce that our World Heritage Leadership (WHL) programme, an ICCROM-IUCN joint initiative, is part of a consortium that has been awarded funding by the Belmont Forum for a research project on establishing a methodology to systematically assess climate change-related risks to heritage.
