Recruitment of a Scientific Coordinator: The increasing impact and growing complexity of disasters in Africa are of great concern for both heritage professionals and decision makers. It is expected that in the next decade, climate change will lead to more frequent extreme weather events, reaching to broader areas.
Director-General Webber Ndoro visited the Italian island of Lampedusa last month for a day-long conference exploring opportunities for strengthening ties between Europe and Africa, organized by the University of Teramo, the Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa, the Municipality of Teramo, the Archdiocese of Agrigento and the Diocese of Teramo-Atri, in collaboration with Snapshots from the Borders.
On 21 April 2021, ICCROM held its first Africa Programme Donors meeting online, to present the Africa Fund and the Youth.Heritage.Africa programme. The meeting was attended by the former donors to the EPA Fund, created to support the activities of the École du Patrimoine Africain, as well as representatives of Member States and partners of ICCROM.
Aspiration 5 of the Agenda 2063 of the Africa We Want calls for an Africa with a strong cultural identity, and common heritage values and ethics. Achieving this aspiration will be possible if we engage communities, especially youth, in the conservation and promotion of their heritage.
Monday 25 May marked the 57th anniversary of the birth of the African Union. To celebrate, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation hosted an online marathon featuring artistic and cultural content dedicated to the African continent.
