Bringing Museum Collections to All
Pamansang Museo Sa Barangay (PMB) ensures that all parts of a community have access to the museum’s collections. PMB makes replicas of some of the collections and brings them in a box resembling a suitcase to communities who would not usually visit the museum. The five boxes feature the (1) Oton Gold Death Mask; (2) three fossilized molars of elephant/stegodon; (3) miniature loom and sample woven fabrics; and (4 & 5) diorama of West Visayas Faunal Region.
Since its implementation in June 2022, six communities and 758 people have been reached. In the next phase of implementation, the replicas will travel to communities outside the city and even to far-flung villages.
The audience usually has no knowledge of the museum. But after the lecture and activities, they demonstrated improved awareness about heritage, conservation and the museum and expressed a desire to visit and see the original exhibitions.
