MOSAIKON was launched in 2008 as a collaborative endeavour of the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), the Getty Foundation, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), and the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM). Over more than a decade, each organization brought its unique skills and resources to the effort in collaboration with regional government authorities and a talented group of conservation professionals and consultants. Through training, capacity building, research, model projects, publications, and support for the professional community, MOSAIKON has had a transformative effect on the region and helped prepare the next generation of decision-makers, site managers, and conservation technicians to protect and conserve the region’s extraordinary archaeological heritage.
