Nordic-Baltic Course on World Heritage Procedures

Nordic-Baltic Course on World Heritage Procedures

On 24-28 September 2018, ICCROM, IUCN, and ICOMOS jointly delivered a course for participants from all the Nordic and Baltic countries on the specific procedures and structures of the World Heritage Convention.  The course was generously hosted by the city of Bergen on the premises of the University of Bergen.

A total of 18 participants from all the Nordic and Baltic countries took part.  They come from diverse backgrounds covering both nature and culture, and work in different capacities and roles in heritage management.

The course featured numerous lectures delivered by the resource people from the World Heritage Advisory Bodies.  The World Heritage sites of the West Norwegian Fjords (Component of Nærøyfjord) and Bryggen provided case studies for simulating an evaluation mission for a new nomination and a reactive monitoring mission for a State of Conservation report of the property. The course thus served as a capacity-building opportunity for participants on processes related to the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, but also as a mechanism for the Advisory Bodies to strengthen the technical networks of specialists working in the field.
