Heritage and Pandemics: My museum is on fire!

Date: 04/09/2020
Time: 14:00 PM (Rome, Italy)
Location: Online

Description

Every year, significant cultural heritage resources, in different parts of the world, continue to be vulnerable to fire risk. Often perceived as a rare risk, large fires are far more frequent if we consider the number of incidents at a national or international level. The ongoing pandemic and ensuing social, as well as political upheavals have further exacerbated the risk.

Following ICCROM’s International seminar “Heritage on fire: who ́s next? Fire risk management for cultural heritage" held on 26 – 28 June 2019, in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil, this webinar will discuss the magnitude of the fire risk and how institutions can enhance both prevention and preparedness by organising joint online simulations with civil defence, disaster risk reduction and heritage institutions in times of COVID-19. A multidisciplinary panel will present the first of its kind national simulation, held virtually, in Estonia.

The webinar is organised within the framework of ICCROM’s flagship programme on First Aid and Resilience in Times of Crisis (FAR). It is the eighth in the series of webinars on Heritage and Pandemics, and highlights the collective experience of FAR alumni network at ongoing multi-hazard risk management amidst COVID-19 restrictions. ICCROM is grateful to all its partners and in particular to the Swedish Post Code Foundation for enabling this exchange.
