How can you provide access to cultural heritage during the pandemic? The current social distancing rules have led many heritage places such as museums, archives and archaeological sites to find creative ways of connecting with people.
Watch "Providing virtual access to cultural heritage during COVID-19" by ICCROM, the ALIPH Foundation and the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation. Research has shown that people find comfort in the sounds and images linked to their cultural heritage. This video offers practical tips for heritage professionals on how to provide and promote virtual or remote access using easily available resources, following a 4-step process. While the first part of the video illustrates the different types of content that can be created online, the second part describes simple tools that can be used to create content in-house.
Produced in Arabic with English subtitles, the instructional video provides easy-to-follow guidance for providing online access to heritage in the MENAP region, an area of the world that has been impacted adversely by intersecting conflicts, extreme hazard events, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This work has been conceived within the ambit of ICCROM’s flagship programme on First Aid and Resilience for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAR) and its capacity development project on Alliance for Cultural First Aid, Peace and Resilience. Organized in partnership with the ALIPH Foundation, Alliance for Cultural First Aid, Peace and Resilience strengthens capacities for risk reduction, preparedness, response and recovery in communities confronting a combination of crises.
