Council Members in RomeThe 97th session of ICCROM Council took place on 26 and 27 October 2022. We were pleased to welcome several Council Members in person at ICCROM Headquarters for the first time in three years. The 97th session of Council was held in a hybrid format, so we were also able to include Council Members who could not be in Rome.

Acting on the authority of the General Assembly, the ICCROM Council is part of the Organization’s backbone. Our Council Members create a combined force of many years of experience in the heritage field and a wealth of knowledge to guide ICCROM’s future trajectory. Council monitors implementation and progress and formulates important and precedent-setting policies of the Organization. We have much gratitude for those who serve on the Council for their genuine contributions toward crafting a stronger and better ICCROM for our Member States.

ICCROM Council MeetingCouncil Members are the face of ICCROM in their respective home countries and internationally; they are critical in sharing knowledge and awareness about ICCROM’s work for cultural heritage conservation. We are tremendously grateful to our Council Members for serving as points of reference for those interested in learning more and becoming involved with ICCROM’s network of 137 Member States, global capacity-building activities and wealth of resources.

Our Council is composed of figures elected by the General Assembly, plus ex officio members representing UNESCO, the Italian Government, the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) and the United Arab Emirates are observers.

We sincerely thank our Council for generously giving us their time, energy and expertise to benefit cultural heritage worldwide. We all join forces because we believe that cultural heritage contributes to sustainable development while ensuring that communities, traditions, museums and natural heritage are preserved for future generations.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for next year’s General Assembly.
