First Aid and Resilience for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAR) is an ICCROM flagship programme. It trains, builds knowledge, creates networks, increases awareness and informs policy with an overall aim to reduce disaster risk for tangible and intangible heritage and associated communities.
The programme motto – Culture Cannot Wait – is grounded in the belief that we can build peaceful and disaster-resilient communities by integrating heritage into disaster risk reduction (DRR), humanitarian aid, peacebuilding and climate action. Today, the FAR network of over 1 000 cultural first aiders spans more than 100 countries.
Since its inception in 2020, the programme has served and engaged 122 countries by offering advisory services for protecting cultural heritage before, during and after a disaster or a conflict, with the support of 132 partners.
FAR directly responds to ICCROM’s Strategic Directions on:
1. Addressing World Concerns for Cultural Heritage
2. Creating a Diverse and Inclusive Global Network
