Together with our partners, ICCROM has launched the online OCM Toolkit, containing the best and most practical resources available from within the heritage sector and beyond, to help collections-based organizations contribute to sustainable development – and thus build a sustainable future together. The Toolkit supports users in setting goals, planning and delivering actions, and monitoring and evaluating activity in sustainable development terms.
A dedicated framework has been developed to review tools in terms of their support for activities that can unlock the potential of collections and connect tools and activities to UN Sustainable Development Goals and their targets. A set of indicators has also been created to help plan and measure collections-based activity against these goals and targets. In addition to desk research, this ongoing work is based on consultation with organizations and professionals working with collections worldwide, conducted through an online survey. Gap analysis is being carried out simultaneously to identify potential tools for future research and development by the project team.
The OCM Toolkit is continually updated to provide an evolving resource for the heritage community. If you have a useful resource you would like included, please let us know at collectionsmatter@iccrom.org.
How to use the Toolkit
The OCM Toolkit can be searched in four ways:
- Search for tools relating to the '5 Ps' of sustainable development (across the top of the Toolkit)
- Search by sustainability-related actions, for example, if you are looking for tools relating to education, sustainable tourism, waste reduction, etc. (down the left side)
- Search for tools by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by clicking the icon for the relevant Goal (on the right side)
- Search for tools relating to a particular SDG target by using the letterbox (below the image of the SDGs)
The search results will give you an overview of the tools (in alphabetical order) that can be used to address the selected aspect of sustainable development, Goal or target. A brief explanation of your selection criterion is provided at the top of the results. The corresponding set of OCM indicators is also shown when searching by SDG targets.
If you want more information on a particular tool in the list of results, click on the item's title for a more detailed description.
Links to the tool (website, publication, form, etc.) and to a descriptive document appear on the left side of the detailed view.
As indicated by the SDG links at the bottom of the detailed view page, you can use the SDG targets and corresponding OCM indicators to help you plan what to measure and monitor as you deliver your sustainable development activity.
