Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC) was launched in 2022 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. It aims to select heritage education cases with contemporary exemplary significance around the world, and to provide an international exchange platform for global heritage education practitioners to communicate and share with each other. Over the past few years, AWHEIC has received more than 200 cases from all five continents, providing practical experience to draw on. The emergence of cross-border innovative cases convinces us that an all-round systemic change in World Heritage Education is approaching. Based on the international platform, innovative practical experience is widely shared. Cross-border cooperation is promoted to encourage different stakeholders to involve in the process of World Heritage education.

Welcome to join us and the deadline for application is May 15th, 2024.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of AWHEIC is to build an international platform focusing on the innovation of World Heritage Education models, exploring in depth the value of World Heritage through the integration of science and creativity. Limited by technological backwardness, regional limitation or weak awareness of heritage conservation, heritage is facing serious problems worldwide. The significance of information dissemination is strongly emphasised and focused. For this purpose, AWHEIC collects cases to broaden new horizons in heritage education and promotes the empowerment of site managers, international organisations, universities, individuals and communities. In the face of a changing world, AWHEIC also calls on innovators to share a common model and to embrace new technologies and cross-border disciplines and fields.

Expected Aims

  1. To establish a platform for World Heritage Education cases sharing and to provide a reference for future action The 2023AWHEIC was held as scheduled, with nearly 100 cases received from around the world. Thirty winning cases were selected based on the SCEIT model of AWHEIC, including 10 Stars of Outstanding, 10 Stars of Discovery, and 10 Stars of the Future. These cases have outstanding value and will be presented for multi-channel results and experience sharing.
  2. To start a dissemination network and a series of activities to promote in-depth exchanges between cases. Maintaining a stable and continuously updated platform, we look forward to stimulating the creative energy of innovators, and we encourage re-collaboration between cases.
  3. To support innovators to receive expert critique and practical mentoring on global platforms. The improvement and optimization of the heritage education model will enhance the capacity for heritage conservation and research for innovators, with a focus on the cases themselves.
