As stone is one of the key building materials in heritage sites all over the world, ICCROM has been implementing courses on stone conservation since 1976. The International Course on Stone Conservation improves the practice of stone conservation for 20 professionals per course edition, providing an understanding of decay and deterioration, disseminating effective conservation methodologies, and ensuring a practical understanding of appropriate repair methods and long-term management strategies. Fundamental theories of conservation are discussed, along with advances in technology and research. The course covers both theoretical and practical conservation, with an emphasis on hands-on case studies and site work.
