Heritage can represent a valuable resource for living together peacefully and building prosperous, sustainable futures. However, it can also find itself in the midst of serious conflicts. As such, the role of heritage in the pursuit of peace requires careful consideration.

If you are a heritage practitioner, researcher, or a humanitarian and development aid professional working to safeguard heritage to build peace in a conflict context, and if your project contributes to one or more of the following core areas, we want to hear from you:

  • Justice and the rule of law – to support transitional justice in all its forms and the development of inclusive, legitimate forms of governance and institutions.
  • Economic and livelihoods recovery – to target poverty and inequalities, and drive post-conflict economies in diverse places, including through large-scale restoration of key infrastructures or smaller scale project aimed at providing meaningful livelihoods to marginalized groups.
  • Safety and security – to provide opportunities for former combatants to engage heritage during the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) phase.
  • Environmental and social provisions – to provide physical and psychosocial support to returning refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) by linking them to their heritage.
