Preservation Arts seeks a paper conservator to join our growing team. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience and a Masters degree in Conservation, with a specialism in works on paper. The conservator should possess strong communication, organization, writing skills and a wide range of hand skills. Treatment practice and documentation must be of an exceptionally high standard. The position requires a focused individual who can work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team in a fast paced environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  The paper conservator will have the following responsibilities: treatment, assessment, onsite condition reporting, documentation, and preparing estimates for treatments. Projects may include a broad range of paper-based artworks from different periods, although our primary focus is on contemporary and modern art.
Treatment of Paper:
Undertake a range of treatments for private, institutions, and public clients with differing materials to the highest level of quality, and to AIC ethical guidelines.
Documentation:
Undertake a high level documentation including ultraviolet and infrared photography as needed, in accordance with the Preservation Arts templates and AIC documentation standards. Draft and submit treatment reports by the department before they are sent out by the Collections and Conservation Manager. Basic knowledge of Photshop and Google Drive is preferred.

Represent the Company:
Represent Preservation Arts for onsite work at institutions, clients residences and art shipping companies while undertaking assessments, condition reports, condition surveys and treatments. The conservator may occasionally be asked to travel onsite for the above mentioned tasks.
Managing the day to day flow of projects in the paper department:
Working closely with the Director of Collections and Conservation to assess, create time estimates, request technician time for packing artworks, and organizing space within the department for larger artworks. Maintain the paper department equipment and supplies, source replacement materials as needed. Ability to work both independently and on a team is desired.
Interdisciplinary Duties:
The paper conservator will often be required to work collaboratively and in an interdisciplinary way with other conservators in different departments at Preservation Arts. They may be asked occasionally to assist with the onsite projects, and work on site in a team setting.
