Experts Program continues training specialized cadres in international cultural organizations

Within the framework of the cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (MOC) and ICCROM, we are conducting a comprehensive training on International Cultural Heritage Conventions and other cultural programmes, called the “Experts Program.”

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Regional Office for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in the Arab States (ICCROM - Sharjah) is organizing a special ceremony to announce the winning projects of the third cycle of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management in the Arab Region (2021-2022), and the second cycle of the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for the Young. The event will be organized over two days during the period from 1 to 2 June 2022 in the Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Biennial ICCROM-Sharjah Awards to be Presented on 2 June

Under the patronage of His Highness, ICCROM-Sharjah will hold a two-day event, from 1-2 June, to declare and celebrate the Award winners. The first day will be a final review of the shortlisted projects. The winners will be announced the following morning – at 9.00 on 2 June – at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah.

It is with a heavy heart that we commemorate the passing of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who died on 13 May 2022. Sheikh Khalifa became Abu Dhabi’s leader in 2004 – succeeding his father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, who is considered the country’s founder – and served as president until the end of his life. With the most profound sorrow, we received the untimely news of the passing away of a good collaborators with ICCROM: the Iraqi archaeologist, Dr Abdulameer al-Hamdani and Prof Amir Pašić. Both scholars were dedicated researchers, men of action, fearless of challenges, and wise teachers in our field.

On 21 March, the ICCROM Regional Office in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, received a delegation from the Republic of Korea. Led by H.E. Seokgu Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United Arab Emirates, they met with the Director of the ICCROM Regional Office, Zaki Aslan and staff to discuss future possible collaborations in the field of cultural heritage.
