Today, ICCROM was pleased to welcome officials from the Ministries of Culture of several African Union Member States, currently participating in the 5th African Union Commission Course. The course is organized by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, with support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today, ICCROM was pleased to welcome officials from the Ministries of Culture of several African Union Member States, currently participating in the 5th African Union Commission Course. The course is organized by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, with support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

WHAPS is a training and international cooperation project which aims to enhance the skills of African cultural heritage professionals as they navigate the complexities of nominating sites to the UNESCO World Heritage Lists and managing heritage sites effectively. This is particularly crucial in the face of growing external threats such as mass tourism and infrastructure expansion.

New Initiative Supports African Leadership in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention
