This seminar discusses the issues confronted by the mount maker when deciding how to mount objects for display (taking the views of other interested parties into consideration). The practical issues and options relating to the type of mount required for particular situations are discussed in general and then in particular in relation to the mounting of Roman archaeological objects for the recent reconstruction and installation of the Temple of Mithras in the City of London below the newly-built European headquarters of Bloomberg.

Outline:

  • Background and route into mount making
  • Mount types with examples
  • A brief look at some previous projects
  • Basic history of the site and some context about Mithras.
  • A look in detail at the process of designing and fabricating the display.
