A milestone MOU signed at the 47th World Heritage Committee session

ICCROM and Uzbekistan

During the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee, ICCROM and the Republic of Uzbekistansigned a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant milestone in their growing partnership.

This MOU signals the start of a shared journey built on a common vision, mutual purpose, and a deep dedication to safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations.Having joined ICCROM in August 2024, Uzbekistan has already emerged as one of the Organization's most engaged Member States. We are inspired by its energy, forward-looking vision, and the exceptional richness of its cultural heritage – from the legendary Silk Road cities to its living traditions of craftsmanship – and by its unwavering resolve to preserve and promote this legacy.

Focus areas of cooperation

The collaboration will focus on four strategic areas where ICCROM brings decades of global expertise and leadership in the heritage sector:

Management and conservation of cultural sites
Conservation of built heritage
Museum and collections management
Development of knowledge and skills across the sector

ICCROM and Uzbekistan

These priorities will be supported by ICCROM’s robust methodologies, practical tools, and knowledge resources – designed to empower heritage professionals, engage local communities, and sustain the living fabric of culture.

“Importantly, this agreement also strengthens the foundation for regional collaboration across Central Asia – a region of immense historical depth and cultural richness,” said the ICCROM Director-General. “We see Uzbekistan as a key partner in fostering resilience, capacity-building, and excellence in conservation throughout the region.”
