World Heritage Leadership Steering Group meets at ICCROM

On 2 and 3 March 2023, the Foundation Partners of the World Heritage Leadership (WHL) programme – ICCROM, IUCN and the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Norway – met in Rome to kick off Phase 2 and shape future work on World Heritage capacity building.

Joining cultural heritage leaders in critical discussions at ALIPH Forum

We joined our long-standing partner, the ALIPH Foundation, and other cultural heritage preservation leaders at the 2023 ALIPH Forum in Abu Dhabi. ICCROM team members engaged in multiple fora across the two-day workshop, which focused on protecting and utilizing cultural heritage for peacebuilding at the nexus of conflict and climate change.

The Arab region is home to diverse cultural heritage with many themes to consider. This complexity called for a continuation of the ICCROM Arab forum for Cultural Heritage, the second edition of which centred on the theme of “authenticity, community and heritage conservation.” The forum’s proceedings (in Arabic) are now available for free digital download.

Visit from Canadian architecture and conservation students

On 21 February, professor Lyette Fortin and her architecture and conservation students from Carleton University, Canada, visited us at ICCROM headquarters. Professor Fortin spent several months at ICCROM in 1986, participating in one of our foundational courses, the Architectural Conservation Course.
