Questa parte significativa del patrimonio culturale mondiale è fonte di coesione sociale e di sviluppo nella regione, che richiede conservazione e uso sostenibile. L'approccio culturalmente differente dell'ICCROM apre il cammino a nuovi spunti nel campo del patrimonio culturale.
Il ruolo dell'ICCROM, riconosciuto da oltre 20 paesi nell'America latina e Caraibi, è quello di agevolare il dialogo e la collaborazione tra i professionisti del patrimonio culturale e le istituzioni nella regione, nonché di lavorare per rafforzare e sostenere gli sforzi dei suoi Stati membri nell'America latina e nei Caraibi, regione questa che è patria di alcuni dei beni culturali più rinomati al mondo.
